***** TIPS *****

Get a spare key made NOW before you need it. Don't trust magnetic key holders, they can fall off, and not be there when you need them. Find a safe place to keep your spare, and leave one with a trusted friend or relative.

If your vehicle is equipped with one of the new transponder anti-theft systems, having a spare key is very important. These systems, if they can be serviced, require expensive specialized equipment for originating new keys. Service on these vehicles will be expensive, and if it cannot be serviced, some require replacement of the anti-theft system, at costs in the thousands of dollars. if your vehicle is equipped with this type of system, be sure that your dealer fully explains your options.

Copy down the code numbers for your keys, give a copy to a trusted friend or relative, or write them on the back of your drivers license or some other item you will have with you. If you have a lost key or lockout situation, being able to supply an accurate code number to your Professional Locksmith will save you money.

Remember your car doors contain many items, mechanical, electrical, and electronic. An untrained person digging down in your car door without the proper skill and tools, can cause hundreds of dollars in damage to electric locks and windows, security systems, onboard computers, and mechanical latches and locks.

Fact about Choosing a Locksmith

All Locksmiths have to be licensed.

Many States currently have no laws requiring the certification, registration, or licensing of a Locksmith. In these States any person who wishes to pursue this trade, may do so. Some State or local governments do have laws restricting the sale of locksmith tools to certified individuals. Some States however do have very strict licensing laws and background check requirements. You should check your States requirements, and be sure that the Locksmith you choose does comply. You should also check with the Better Business Bureau, for any filed complaints.

Anyone listed in the "yellow pages" is checked out by the phone company.

Any individual could place an ad in the "yellow pages" posing as a Neuro-Surgeon, Attorney, or a Locksmith. In some parts of the country, it is very common to find tow companies advertising for car openings under the "Locksmiths and Locksmithing" heading , without having the certification or knowledge of a trained Professional Locksmith.

MAYBE

Remember the adage " You get what you pay for"? The most reliable way of choosing a Professional Locksmith, is be sure they comply with all local and State certification, or licensing requirements. They know that to remain in business they have to charge a fair market price and make a profit, and set their prices accordingly.
